Our Church Staff

Stephen Patrick, Pastor

Pastor Stephen Patrick was welcomed as Interim Pastor to Emmanuel at the worship services on Sunday May 18, 2008.  He has previously served as Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Lakewood (2002-2008), Pastor of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Mansfield (1989-2002), Associate Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Dover (1985-1989), and Pastor of Trinity,  Magnolia and Grace, Sandyville (now Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church) (1977-1985).  Pastor Steve is married to Ruth, a former elementary school music teacher, who is currently the organist at First Lutheran Church in Strasburg.  They have a son, Martin, who graduated from Valparaiso University and has completed one year of studies at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Pastor Steve was born in Dayton, Ohio, graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in English and graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. “I am privileged to be able to be among the saints at Emmanuel Church at this time.   My father graduated from New Philadelphia High School prior  to his serving in World War II.  I spent several weeks of several summers in the 1950’s and early ‘60’s with my grandparents and have wonderful memories of Tuscora Park, Goshen Dairy, shopping for my favorite comic books “up town” at Woolworth’s, Grant’s and J.J. Newberry’s, and being around relatives.  In the 1980’s I served at Grace in Dover and so have not only visited Tuscarawas County but have actually lived here in previous years.  It feels great to back here once again.  I hope to be  able to use my pastoral experiences of the past thirty years to work with all  of you as together we walk through the Healthy Congregations process with the generous assistance of the Northeastern Ohio Synod resources.” Let us all pray together – O Lord, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot seen the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
